WHAT IS ART THERAPY?

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of expression and communication (BAAT). Art making helps reduce stress and anxiety, activates dopamine reward pathways, promotes reflection and self awareness and redirects negative thoughts.

In art therapy, it is the process rather than the product that heals, transforms, and creates avenues for insight and development.

"When words are not enough, we turn to images and symbols to tell our stories. And in telling our stories through art, we find pathways to wellness, recovery and transformation"

WHY SHOULD I TRY ART THERAPY?

When done in a safe and trusting space, art-making leads to healing and new ways of thinking as it connects people to their own limiting beliefs, narratives, self-critic, past experiences, and other habits and patterns that might no longer be serving them anymore. Art-making promotes reflection and self-awareness. With the support of a professional and compassionate art therapist, the art-making process brings the unconscious to a more conscious level.

WHAT APPROACH DO YOU USE?

My therapeutic approach is psychodynamic and Jungian based and integrates mindfulness into the art-making process. I passionately believe that art-making and creativity can be an act of self-care and a way of nurturing ourselves and getting to know ourselves. Creativity lives within us, we simply need to explore ways to access it. Within art therapy, there is no right or wrong art - the space is all about telling your unique story through creative self-expression.

WHAT DOES THE SESSION LOOK LIKE?

Sessions are conducted confidentially in a safe and nurturing environment. We start wherever you are and find the right pace which you need the most. The first half of the session will consist of art-making, followed by an exploration of the process in the second half of the session. When working online together, I will support you in developing a creative space in your own home.

DO I HAVE TO BE AN ARTIST?

Art therapy is not about mastering or improving art skills or techniques. No art background or experience is required for individuals to attend art therapy. All that ones needs is curiosity, openness to creativity, and a desire for change. If you feel drawn to exploring if art therapy could be good support for you, book a FREE 30-minute consultation call to explore how I can support you. I look forward to connecting with you!
